Dr. Rustagi, a member of both the American Optometric Association and New Jersey State Optometric Association, is the director of eye care at Upper Montclair Eye Care & Wear. Dr. Rustagi received his undergraduate education from Rutgers State University in New Jersey and then completed his Doctorate in Optometry from Inter American University, where he earned the Dr. Angel F. Romero award for his academic achievements. Dr. Rustagi then furthered his training with his residency at The State University of New York College of Optometry. During his training at the New Jersey and New York Veterans Administration Hospital, he worked closely with the UMDNJ department of Ophthalmology and gained valuable experience in the treatment of Ocular Diseases.Dr. Rustagi has been licensed to practice Optometry in New Jersey since 2002. He has considerable experience in eye care for children and adults. He also has experience with difficult contact lens fits like astigmatism and multifocal lenses. Dr. Rustagi offers complete eye exams with glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, cataract evaluations, and LASIK pre-screening. Surgical Co-management services for LASIK and cataracts are also available.

Pratik Patel O.D. received his Doctor of Optometry from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and is a recipient of the Conforma Laboratories Award. He also completed his Bachelors of Arts in Economics from Rutgers University- New Brunswick with a minor in Biological Science. He is a board-certified optometric physician and a member of the American Optometric Association..
Dr. Patel spent a year working in the VA and other practices in Florida, Pennsylvania, and the country. During that time, he learned about primary ocular health, dry eye disease, and the treatment and management of glaucoma, macular degeneration, and other ocular diseases. Dr. Patel also presented at the Global Specialty Lens Symposium in Las Vegas on the topic of scleral lens design and fittings. Scleral lenses help vault over the cornea and bypass any corneal disease such as keratoconus, corneal transplants, and aid with patients with severe dry eyes. They provide clearer vision and better comfort for people who cannot wear soft contact lenses.
If he seems familiar to you, Dr. Patel worked alongside Dr. Rustagi at Eye Care & Wear for a few years before his start in optometry school. Having already spent so much time training with Dr. Rustagi, his transition into an associate optometrist will be seamless.
Dr. Patel was born and raised in New Jersey. During his spare time, Dr. Patel enjoys traveling, playing tennis, exercising, and learning to cook new dishes. Dr. Patel’s addition to the practice means more appointment availability, more specialty contact lens options, and a continuation of the high standard of care that Dr. Rustagi has instilled in the practice.
